Entrevista:Kirby Maurier

Porque você escolheu regravar músicas dos anos 90, e como foi a escolha do repertório para o EP? -Eu estava procurando uma inspiração, sendo que o gênero R&B tem sido tão nublado com a música pop. Na esperança de se apaixonar, com Hip-Hop e R&B mais uma vez,claro,fui ouvir meus discos preferidos dos anos 90. Coincidentemente, todos foram liberados nos anos 1994-96 "daí o título do EP, Class of 96".

Se você não fosse uma cantora e compositora, que profissão você escolheria?
-Ok, esta é aleatória, mas eu acho que eu me tornaria uma proprietária de museu /diretora. Eu sou uma freqüentadora de museu,tão freqüente que sempre que estou em uma nova cidade,ver seus museus é o topo da minha lista. Eu acho eles fascinantes, porque eu também gosto de colecionar e preservar as coisas que eu acho importante também. 

Como você é um artista novo, não sabemos muito sobre você, poderia contar um pouco sobre a trajetória de sua vida?
-Eu canto profissionalmente há quase 5 anos, porém eu sempre quis se tornar uma cantora profissional desde os 4 anos. No últimos anos, passei muito tempo em desenvolvimento,sendo uma artista de aprendizagem sobre a indústria da música. A partir de agora, eu pretendo continuar a escrever, gravar e lançar música anos após ano. E me manter humilde,como eu estou sempre aprendendo, sempre se esforçando para ser melhor, e sempre grato pelo apoio dos meus fãs. O melhor ainda está por vir.
  
Como a música mudou sua vida, seus amigos e família, apoiaram o seu trabalho?
Ou seja,a reação , como eles me tratam agora vs anteriormente.
Meus amigos e familiares me tratam praticamente igual. Eles desempenham um papel importante em manter-me humilde e lembrando-me do que é mais importante. Eles são muito favoráveis ​​e eu sou muito grato por cada um deles.

Qual foi a primeira vez que entrou em estúdio?
  Wow, a primeira vez que eu fui para o estúdio? Isso depende do que você chamaria de um estúdio (risos). Meu primeiro estúdio de "experiência" foi em um armário do meu amigo que morava nos projetos. Ele tinha uma pequena instalação com equipamentos não tão bons, mas nós o fizemos funcionar. Eu valorizo aqueles tempos porque me permite avaliar o quão longe eu vim.

Suas inspirações,artistas favoritos?
Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blidge, Faith Evans, Anita Baker,...e a lista continua.

Além de "Class of '96" que projetos estão previstos para serem entregues ao público este ano?
Meu próximo projeto é ainda sem título no momento, mas você vai estar ouvindo alguns das prévias antes do ano terminar. Hiphop / R&B  ,se preparem, porque  certamente vai ter que ficar pegando o botão de repetição! :)

Because you chose to re-record songs from the 90s,and how was the choice of repertoire for the EP?

 I was looking for a bit of inspiration, being that the R&B genre has been so clouded with pop music. Hoping to fall in love with Hip-Hop and R&B all over again, I of course found myself listening to my favorite records of the 90’s. Coincidently, they were all released within the years 1994-96’ hence the EP’s title, Class of 96’.

If you weren't a professional singer and songwriter, what profession would you choose?

Ok, this is random, but I think I’d become a museum owner/director. I’m a frequent museum goer so whenever I’m in a new city, seeing one of its’ museums is on the top of my list. I think that they are fascinating because I also like to collect and preserve things that I find significant as well.

 Since you are a new artist, we do not know much about you, could tell a little about the trajectory of your life?

 I’ve been singing professionally for nearly 5 years, however I’ve always wanted to become a professional singer since age 4. Within the last couple of years, I’ve spent a lot of time developing who I am as an artist and learning about the music industry. As of now, I plan to continue writing, recording, and releasing music year after year. I keep myself humble as I am always learning, always striving to be better, and always thankful for the support of my fans. The best is yet to come.

 As the music changed your life, your friends, family supported their work?

 My friends and family pretty much treat me the same. They play a large role in keeping me humble and reminding me of what’s most important. They’re very supportive and I am very thankful for each and every one of them.

 When was the first time you went into the studio?
Wow, the first time I ever went to the studio? That depends on what you would call a studio (lol).  My first studio “experience” was in my friend’s closet who lived in the projects. He had a small setup with not so good equipment but we made it work. I treasure those times because it allows me to measure how far I’ve come.

Who are your musical inspirations and favorite artists?
Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blidge, Faith Evans, Anita Baker,… the list goes on on.

Beyond "Class of '96" what projects are expected to be delivered to the public this year?
My next project is untitled at the moment, however you WILL be hearing some of the cuts from it before the year ends. Hiphop/R&B heads get ready, because it’ll definitely have you reaching for that repeat button!
